Connecting with natureThursday, 14th June 2018 — posted in News
GFB is now back in the ‘furniture’ business with a new range of sleeper benches, seats, tables and feeders, thanks in part to a large order from RSPB Aire Valley (Fairburn Ings & St Aidans). Providing robust furniture for nature reserves, strategically sited, is all about providing opportunities to connect visitors with nature and ‘sits well’ with GFB’s “social value” ethos – as a certified social enterprise.
A new bird table has also joined GFB’s ‘Ecology Design’ range. Hygienic recycled plastic, extreme fibreboard (#MTX), stainless steel screws and a Made in Yorkshire design. Importantly, this is a conservation-grade build re Trichomonosis.
We’re thrilled that one of the benches made in our workshop recently is a memorial to Charlie Winn, the first RSPB warden for Fairburn Ings when it was taken on more than 40 years ago. Charlie’s bench is now installed in his favourite spot at Fairburn. As lifelong Yorkshire birders ourselves, we honed our skills and expertise at Fairburn in the 1970s.
The standard of GFB’s furniture products has been recognised with great feedback including consecutive Gold Awards from the Harrogate Spring and Autumn Flower Shows.
